Talbot House has a long and successful record of preparing children for their secondary schools. This includes the Grammar Entry examinations for the highly selective grammar schools in the Bournemouth and Poole areas and scholarships and Entrance Exams to Independent schools including Ballard, Bournemouth Collegiate School, St Mary’s Shaftesbury, Talbot Heath and Moyles Court. In the academic year 2023-2024 the success rate of Grammar Entry tests students was 100%.
We excel at preparing pupils for the 11+ examinations
Early preparation for 11+ readiness starts in Year 1, building upon the foundations we lay in our Early Years department, and progressing to ensure that by the time pupils take the examinations at the beginning of Year 6, they are confident and well prepared.
Pupils are taught to use and apply their knowledge in the exam papers and to develop their exam technique through weekly practice and termly assessments from Year 3 in Maths, English and in Verbal Reasoning.
We support each individual child through the process, placing their wellbeing at the heart of our approach to both reduce stress levels and ensure success.
We are proud that so many of our Year 6s excel at the 11+ and go on to receive offers from a wide range of sought-after local grammar schools
